I want to use my Apple iphone in Australia to receive texts and phone calls from the UK and do not intend to buy a local a local SIM card. Do I need to inform O2 so that they can unlock my phone or will it work with my present SIM? I own my phone and have a monthly contract with O2.

Hi @Anonymous If you are with O2 then the phone should work in Australia. You may want to contact customer services to let them know you are going in case there is an international bar on your account https://www.o2.co.uk/contactus

Be aware that one single text back to the UK will trigger the £4.99 daily charge. It costs nothing to receive texts but personally I would switch off Mobile/cellular data and just use it on with WiFi unless you are happy to pay the daily charge.

Thank you for that tip Jonsie, I shall certainly keep it in mind.

@Anonymousit also helps if you turn off voicemail whilst abroad. If you respond to any voicemail left on the phone, it will also cost you. Calls are free to receive but once you respond to the voicemail, the charge of £4.99 will also be triggered
Dial 1760 to turn off before you travel...then when back in the UK dial 1750 to turn it back on...
