iPhone 4S (iOS 6.1.3) connects to home Wifi, but not O2 or the_Cloud hotspots

Hello.

I have been having some issues connecting to hotspot wifi.

I can connect to my home and office wifi without a problem, but my phone will not automatically connect to wifi hotspots.  When I try to connect manually, the phone hangs on the login screen before giving the message below.  The phone is set up on O2 wifi and Sky wifi, but the issue is common to them both.

This seems to be a common iPhone problem.  Has anyone with this version of iOS solved it and if so, can they post a link to the solution?

Thanks,

Stuart

By way of an update, on the basis of advice from an Apple Forum, I downloaded 6.1.3 via iTunes as a clean install and then reinstalled my Apps and set-up mail using new settings.  It was a bit of a pain, but at least it made me review the Apps I have.  I re-sync'd with iTunes to put the music and podcasts back.  I did not restore from a backup.

I tried connecting to The_Cloud and O2 WIFI hotspots and it works fine (without having to turn cellular data off)!

Thanks for your help.

Try turning off wifi, then turn off cell data, then turn wifi back on.

Thanks for the post.

I will try it, but does that mean when I leave the hotspot, I have to turn the cellular data back on (and so on each time I am in range and want to use hotspot wifi)?

It appears so, unfortunately. The problem, apparently, is something to do with the ports that are open on Apple's servers. It's a problem they are supposed to be addressing which I guess will come in yet another bug fix iOS software patch wink

Thanks.

Rather dissapointing that a company like Apple, can't get it right.

I see you have Samsung devices.  Do you have the same problems or other wifi related issues?

The S3 plays up with some Wifi hotspots but I think this is due to sensitivity/interference. The S2 has always been very good at connecting strongly to all hotspots so I guess it's down to different modems in different phones.

There are a few things Apple haven't got right recently....... 😞
