Unknown charges when abroad

Anonymous
Not applicable
I am aware of the charges when travelling abroad therefore I always turn off my data Roma and always use wifi connection. I have only sent one international message this month however when checking my account balance I have been charged £6. I looked to see my recent charges and they were calls and texts to unknown numbers that I do not recognise at all. Can someone help me - can you be hacked through wifi and can they use my phone to contact people. I am scared my bill will be so high and O2 won't be able to help - when it's not even me that's using it!

You cannot be hacked via wifi for calls and texts to be made. I suspect the numbers showing are the message centre number via which text and mms are made. If so the numbers may be  Pre-pay = +447802092035. Contract = +447802000332 or texts being sent as mms/email may show as 000000000001234

There's a useful link here : http://community.o2.co.uk/t5/Apple-iOS-Devices-iPhone-iPad/iPhone-sending-MMS-messages/m-p/115808/hi...

Another thing you need to do is to turn off mobile/cellular data as the iphone will switch off wifi when sleeping thus updating via mobile data. It's not clear from your post whether you have done this.

By contacting O2 Customer Services by telephone they will be able to clarify what the charges are you have seen if by looking in your http://www.o2.co.uk/myo2 its still not clear.

When abroad on an iPhone a user needs to turn off 'Mobile Data' , as well as 'Data Roaming and EU Internet' toggles to stop what jonsie has described when the phones home-screen goes to sleep.
