Sim Swap not succeed after 24 hrs

Anonymous
Not applicable

I tried to swap to a micro sim card yesterday afternoon 4pm. My old sim card died later last night. But my new sim card is still not working yet. My number has not been recognized for over 12 hrs. Is this due to the net work problem? Has any body else is experiencing  the same problem?

As it turned out, No (though I thought that I had); & turning it off (properly) & on, did fix the problem. So I'll say what I did here as it might help others with similar problems (especially for those of us changing over from older phones where pressing the power button does switch the phone off and on). I'd pressed the "power" button on the top right corner of the iPhone case & the phone had beeped & gone blank, so I thought that it was off. This morning I pressed the "power" button & entered my pin code. Then I pressed & held the "power" button for a few seconds until "slide to power off" was displayed at the top of the screen. I then followed those instructions & the phone shut down taking about 5-10 secs to do so. Then I waited about 5 mins (in case the O2 network needed to notice that the phone had "gone"). Then I pressed the "power" button again briefly & the phone booted up taking several seconds. When it had booted up it was connected to O2 & working properly on the ported number. It still displayed the original temporary number in "My Number", but by going to Settings>Phone I was able to correct it. Thank you for your help.

Just a tip for future or others

I have always just put the iphone into airplane mode as that  disconnects you from the network leave it 30 seconds then turn it off and that reconnects much faster than a boot cycle.

How long have you been waiting?

Has the old sim disconnected yet? If not do the swap again.

If yes, have you rebooted the iphone with the new sim in it?

If You need to call O2 then choose any of the options, fraud etc
Everything is taking longer due to the lockdown. Call centres and social distancing means limited staff to handle all the queries. Patience needed I'm afraid.
