I tried to swap to a micro sim card yesterday afternoon 4pm. My old sim card died later last night. But my new sim card is still not working yet. My number has not been recognized for over 12 hrs. Is this due to the net work problem? Has any body else is experiencing the same problem?

Just a tip for future or others
I have always just put the iphone into airplane mode as that disconnects you from the network leave it 30 seconds then turn it off and that reconnects much faster than a boot cycle.

How long have you been waiting?
Has the old sim disconnected yet? If not do the swap again.
If yes, have you rebooted the iphone with the new sim in it?

If You need to call O2 then choose any of the options, fraud etc
Everything is taking longer due to the lockdown. Call centres and social distancing means limited staff to handle all the queries. Patience needed I'm afraid.
