Problem activating tethering on an iPhone 4s

I've just bought a secondhand iPhone 4s, lovely device but can't get the tethering to activate. It takes me to a generic iPhone tethering help page but no option to activate the tethering.

My contract isn't iPhone specific, I've also got a Nexus 4 on which tethering works fine. In order to get data working on the iPhone I had to change the APN to wap.o2.co.uk as idata settings didn't work. Could this be the source of the problem? Is there a way to get tethering working without changing to an iPhone tariff as I'll probably use both the Nexus and the iPhone on the same contract (obviously not at the same time!)

You need to speak to o2 and have the data addon changed to iphone.

Live chat can do this for you.

Thanks for the reply, I'm guessing I can't activate it without changing my tariff? I'm reluctant to as I'd also use my Android Nexus 4 on my contract - I'm guessing I can't use both handsets with the same contract and settings for tethering?

Ah you can don't worry - just tell them you now have an iphone and they change your data for you, takes upto 24hrs to switch.

You will only be able to then officially tether from the iPhone, but would be surprised if it doesn;t also still work on Android..
