Hi guys, was hoping for some advice with issues I've had with reciving calls and SMS on Saturday that O2 haven't been able to help explain. As I work on an on call system for a hospital covering emergencies, I rely on my mobile phone when I am required to be made avalible for emergencies in the hospital.
On Saturday, my phone was being used for my on call, and attemps to call me, and SMS me were made but were not recieved despite my phone being on and O2 saying no issues with the network occured in my area. The phone was sitting on my charger, turned on seemingly acting as normal. I've never had any issues of this nature before with the phone either. It's an iPhone 5 and is up to date with its software.
I later found that several attempts were made to reach me, but calls went straight to voicemail. About 8 hours later, the voicemails and texts reached my phone all at once, while prior people were able to reach me via iMessage. I had been checking the phone was reciving signal throughout the day just to make sure and no issues were found.
Has any one else had similar issues or are able to explian why this could have happened? I'd appreciate any information ab=nyone can offer.
Thank you.

are you in a 3g area ? was the iphone connected to the o2 data network?
there are a few reason this can happen.
if on 2g and data is being used but wifi drops calls / sms go straight to voice mail.
if on 3g and cell is congested also same sympton.
if in a congested area if you turn 3g off and are in range of home wifi etc turn cell data off and calls / sms should come through.
this issue has been around for a long time a very long thread about it here http://community.o2.co.uk/t5/Apple-iOS-Devices-iPhone-iPad/Calls-straight-to-voicemail/m-p/33299#M20...

I found iphone is fancy but not professionally reliable. I have just received my iphone 5 this afternoon and soon found out people phone me could not hear me, only buzzing noice. Unless I put on speaker or use earplug, after several tests I concluded. I chatted with several gurus and soft reset it many times but only proved it was faulty. Previously my friend using iphone had similar situation as yours. We had difficulties reach her. I think I will return it and order another one with samsung or sony, which both worked for me quite reliably.

Only by trying turning 3g off can you improve it if it is down to congestion at work until either o2 increases capacity at that location or less users are logged on to the mast.
