Fake o2 calls

Anonymous
Not applicable

I've had missed calls almost every day this week from the number 01612 776640. I finally answered it today and it was someone claiming to be from o2, but I'm pretty certain it's a scam - they asked questions about my how much I spend per month and said they can offer me a cheaper deal. The girl was really pushy and when I said I wasn't interested she hung up.

Anyone else had these calls?

It's not appeared on here before as far as I can see and not much on google for it either.
It is a Manchester number, so could be from an o2 call centre, maybe @Toby can check if it's o2 or not?

General rule of thumb is never agree to anything from a cold caller. Most phones now will let you block numbers, which you should do with this particular one in any case.

I have been playing catch up and looked on Google, Certainly nothing registered to O2. If you have the option on your phone to block or reject the number you would be well advised to do this...

This seems like a scam going around, I've read reports tonight of a similar one of people posing as Sky

If it turns out that this is a so called 'trusted partner', it implies O2 condones cold calling. You know where they can put that....
