Can't deregister new sim number from iMessage as transferred to old number now

Hi
Please can anyone help. I've just moved to O2. Got new phone and sim and then transferred number over. Everything finally transferred over yesterday but i can't deregister new O2 sim number on new iphone from iMessage as transferred to old number now so can't put sim in and can't get code.

Turn phone off and on again.
Then it should work.

Thank you managed to do it finally! I'd tried to do it in Settings but finally seemed to sort itself out after a restart. Thanks for you replies
