Can't connect ipad on 3G - you are not subscribed to a cellular data plan

I just received my 1gb preloaded SIMM for my new ipad. Installed it and registered the SIMM ok. The ipad in settings shows the SIMM as registered and I can even go to the registration screens using mobile data only. However if I try to connect safari or any other service using just cellular data the ipad tells me I'm not subscribed to a cellular data plan and asks is I want to subscribe. Clicking now takes me to the O2 plan registration screen where I can log in and see the registration.

I have tried connecting through iTunes, updating iOS, tried various APN settings suggested in other forums - and now reset to those originally provided. the ipad has been reset, rebooted and I'm just about to start tearing what little hair I have left out...
Any suggestions?

Er, thanks. After 5 calls, seven different customer service people, transferred to wrong department twice, cut off once, left on hold 15 minutes waiting to be transferred, being told to wait up to 24 hours for registration to work (36 hours after registering) etc, etc, I was hoping for inspiration here slight_smile

Oh well - frankly after nearly 2.5 hours trying to get any sense out of O2 I think I'll go buy one for another network 😞

Im sorry to hear your having issues.

Occasionally turning the device off and then back on helps reset it and activates the services.

Yep - done that (several times) - according to the people O2 I've spoken to I've done all the right things. The iPad actually connects through 3G in the iPad settings and confirms the sim is registered, shows outstanding data etc. it just won't work with any app. Waiting for 'back line support' to call me now. Last ditch attempt.

Spent 1 hr in o2 shop. They set up data plan on my ipad at £10.21 they could not make it work. Tried o2 guru telephone support, very helpful, did everything others have tried all to no avail. I have 30 day plan that is clocking down but cannot use it as ipad says i have nothing left on my plan!! o2 guru says he has done every check possible and his system confirms my data plan is active so it must be a fault on ipad. I should take ipad to Apple shop to be fixed. I just do not believe it.

I finally got my issues sorted out by O2 telephone support. It seems that there are only one or two people in the support team that know about this problem - as admitted by the chap I spoke to! The problem was that the pre-loaded sim (as it was pre-paid) showed a balance of £0.00 so despite being registered and set up correctly their systems believe there was no credit left.

Took me over five days of calls and this only got fixed when I wanted them to refund the £10. I was so frustrated that I forgot to ask them for 5 days of credit so don't forget to ask for that.

I'd suggest going through to the customer service number and following prompts for the iPad support and explaining your problem and that this is what needs to change....

Oh, and I should add that the fix was for the support person to force £0.01 credit on to the plan and then it worked - immediately 😕

Glad you sorted it eventually. As you say it's a matter of speaking to the right person.
