Buy phone from Amazon but still on current O2 package

Hi

I want to buy an Apple iphone from Amazon that is locked to O2 - but wondered how do I get my sim card transferred over. Also can a iphone 4 SIM fit in iphone 5 phone?

The difference in price between doing it this way against getting a higher tariff with O2 alongside my phone is over £200.

Your advice would be much appreciated

Hi

You'll need a nano sim card to fit into the iphone 5.

Any 02 shop can move your tariff and mobile number from your old sim to a new nano one.

The iphone 5 will not work with 4g on the 02 network.

Yes a 4g compatible phone such as the iphone 5s works well as long as youre in a 4g catchement area. Check here via your postcide http://status.o2.co.uk

When you visit the 02 store make sure you tell them if your on contract or payg so they give you the correct nano sim card.

Simswaps can be done at home too via http://swapmysim.o2.co.uk but if your in the shop you might as well ask them to do it. Takes from a few minutes to approx 24 hours to settle.

Keep turning the phone off and on or airplane mode on and off to help the re connection

You're very welcome.

You can choose a 4G Tariff even though the iPhone 5 will not connect to 02's 4G but you can still use this data allowance on 3G.

If you get a 4G phone you will also need to get a 4G tariff and be in a 4G area to make use of the 4G speeds.

If you are looking at saving money and are on a 3G tariff currently you would probably be better off staying with what you have.

4G is only of any real benefit if you download movies, videos or stream content (and you need a larger data allowance too).
