Hi, I've registered for O2 wifi but it doesn't appear in my list of wifi networks on my phone? Also it tells me I'm connected to BT Openzone and the signal is strong but I can't get online. I have no router but downloaded the O2 wifi app....

Yes, thanks for that - I had previously downloaded the app. Was just confused at the message that I was connected and that the signal was strong??!!

You can't use all BT Openzone hotspots, some are privately owned, check the one you're connected to here:

Thankyou! Yep, doesn't seem to be anything in range - my app must be lying to me!!

Not at all if your phone is set to connect to any wi-fi hotspot available it will, but if it's not one that is part of your contract or an O2 one you won't be able to use it.
My laptop will do the same and connect to a BT wi-fi or a BT wi-fi with Fon hotspot but I can't use them.

I have so much to learn about wifi! Having said that, the one I get 'connected' to and tells me the signal strength is strong is BT Openzone which I thought was available to O2 customers? On the other hand I do seem to be out of range..... Just curious about the apparent mismatch!

On a good day you should get about 30 metres range indoors and up to 100 metres outdoors.
In reality it's often only half or less of that.
