On o2

2g it is only voice or data not both (same on all networks on 2g)

3g it is both using 3g for voice and data

4g is still data only Voice reverts to 3g/2g

Hi,

O2 has rolled out 4G in quite a few cities and will complete by 2015.

I've personally not had the need to use voicecalls and still surf on the Internet.

I'm sure one of the other members will be able to explain why this is not possible via the O2 Network.

I can remember this been discussed before, but I can't remember the answer.....
Maybe a search on the forum will help you....

Hi,

I believe this is down to both network (not just O2) AND hardware.  From what I remember it's not possible to have both simultanously active at one time on a 3G service (or older/slower network).  It is however possible but only if a device manufacturer has kitted out the device with an additional radio/modem, but that ups the cost of the device.

I think LTE/4G has scope to run data and voice at the same time, but for those without the hardware or service you'll just have to be courteous and pay attention to the person you're talking to wink

Jonty.

Simultaneous voice and data is only available on 3G on any network.

You can use GPRS or Edge data on 2G or voice but not both and there is (presently) no voice at all on 4G.

I suspect you are dropping back to 2G during the call.
