Samsung Galaxy S2 stuck on boot screen

Anonymous

Hi

Please can someone help with my Samsung Galaxy S2 GTI900 which has been stuck in a boot loop (Samsung logo to o2 bubbles). I have removed the s2 card since but I have things on the phone which I do not want to lose (contacts etc).

I have gone into recovery mode (volume up, home and power) and now have the following options:

- reboot system now

- apply update from sd card

- wipe data/factory reset

- wipe cache partition

Which is the safest option for me to use without losing anything from the phone? Obviously not option 3 but I am unsure as to whether to reboot or wipe cache partition.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I am only able to repeat the advice given by @MI5  to someone else earlier this year. It resolved the problem

"Hold Vol Down + Home + Power (in that order) then press vol up. It should put the phone into Odin (download) mode, then follow this http://community.o2.co.uk/t5/Android-Devices-Samsung-HTC-Sony/HOW-TO-A-Guide-to-using-Odin/m-p/46346... Your data will be preserved."

This was the thread he gave that advice...

Hi

Yes I have tried that (more than once and I have tried download mode)- would none of the other options work without doing the factory reset? (i.e. 'reboot now' or 'wipe cache partition')

Thank you for your help.

"If the phone is not working correctly, you may need to master reset it and also clear the cache partition. These two resets clear different parts of the phone storage. Unlike a master reset, wiping the cache partition does not delete your personal data."

Found this online.

Additional info from a colleague of mine. Select wipe cache partition from the recovery menu mentioned in the first post but NOT Dalvic cache.

Credit to Phil M for the information

Dalvic cache is only an option if you are rooted with a custom kernel installed so no fear of finding that option.
Ironically it is the one option that would probably help you the most though - Other than following my Odin thread advice and reflashing your firmware.
