Your partners phone has the correct firmware for her model. Yours is incorrect and NFC will never work on it again unless you put an NFC ROM back on it. O2 haven't released their ROM for JB yet on the NFC version so your only UK firmware option is Orange (at this moment in time). However, you should NOT flash this onto a locked phone as you will not get lucky twice and your phone will turn into a paperweight !!
If you want JB, with NFC function, request an unlock code, unlock the phone and put the Orange ROM on it. If you're not fussed about having NFC leave it for now until O2 release their JB "P" ROM or go back to your correct ICS firmware.
Choice is all yours.......?

If you updated OTA you must have the correct firmware. What is your phones CSC ? Have you done a factory reset?

Surely if you did it over the air it would only detect the correct firmware

I need you to dial *#1234# and write back here what the phone says (all 3 lines). It's not making any sense at the moment. The only JB "P" firmware available at the moment is Orange.....
