Depends on your phone but if you can take the battery out and wait 5 mins.
If not hold power and volume down for about 20-30 secs.

Mi5 wasn't it power and volume up but then again it's different on every phone on my Huawei p8 lit it's just the power button for 10 seconds

Power +up is to get into recovery mode.
Power + down is simulated battery pull for phones with fixed battery.
