Hi I have a Samsung Galaxy S III mini and when I'm on certain apps (mainly gaming apps) my phone switches off by itself after a couple of minutes (if that). The battery still has enough charge and I don't know why it is happening. Can anyone help?

According to the Android forum you may need a new battery....(or even a new phone as the S3 mini is quite old now?)
Personally I would try a new battery first...

Corrupted files or they are rogue apps. Maybe the phone doesn't have the power to handle the games

They used to work just fine but now nothing. My phone says it has low battery and then goes back up to normal. Is it a software problem or the battery?

It's telling you to stop wasting your life playing games
Or, your battery is faulty and can't cope with the power delivery. (could also be dirty battery contacts, try cleaning with a pencil eraser).
Please select the post that helped you best and mark as the solution. This helps other members in resolving their issues faster. Thank you.

You could try a reset but it looks like the battery could be at fault here from what you say
