Android 4.4 KIT KAT

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hi All,

new version of Android Kitkat should roll out and will be available for couple new phones.

HTC One, S Galaxy S4, Nexus 4, 7 . and couple other. There wont be big changes, but should be faster and main thing save the battery. Does any one know more when we will get it?

Why don't you get your network unlock code from o2 and once you have unlocked it flash it with open firmware. That's what I have done with my galaxy s4 so I imagine you can do the same with your HTC One, that way you don't invalidate your warranty and no need to root.

Unfortunately not quite so easy on an HTC One, esp not if an O2 branded device as it will have the bootloader locked out which O2 won't unlock, ever, and other obstacles such as S-Off/On etc.....

No worries mate. HTC are one of the most difficult to flash. Samsung and Sony pretty straightforward though wink

I replied to a sponsored tweet from 02 in my feed today and asked them. They still don't know but did say I could sign up here for updates https://www.o2.co.uk/get updates which is more help than their clueless chat guy! Just enter your contact type, manufacturer and operating system and they'll send you product updates via email. Hoping I haven't just signed myself up to spam but we'll see

Sorry for some reason my keyboard put a space in that URL. It should be https://www.o2.co.uk/getupdates

Or just wait for it to arrive. KitKat is being released but in a steady process.

Sim free will come out shortly for S4. O2 will make you wait for a while as they test it. Given the issues with 4.3 best wait in my opinion then if it goes wrong on an o2 branded handset they have to take some responsibility.

Looks like Samsung have finally released the devices list that will receive the update to KitKat and announced that the updates will be starting from the post date.

So, as always we have to ask: When will O2 release the update?

Good to see Note 2 on that list though if past experience is anything to go by O2 will probably release the update before EE (mines the LTE version).

iPhone 14 Pro (O2 ), S23U (EE), iPad Pro LTE (EE), .

HTC do have a bootloader "unlocker" as it so eloquently puts it.

http://www.htcdev.com/bootloader

If you ADB drivers installed you can type the command into a DOS box. fastboot oem unlock although I don't know if HTC come with sort of priviso like a key which needs to be removed or deactivated.

As always these things come with at your own risk.

Indubitably true. Samsung S21 Ultra and Xiaomi 14 Ultra
