Hi,
I have the Sony Xperia z 1 and I am just curious as to how I can tell whether I am currently 2G/3G/4G. With my iPhone it was obvious - it said 3G etc at the top.
However on the Sony Xperia it just has E, H or G - E used to mean neither with Iphone.
4G is rolling out soon in my area - anyone have any ideas?
Thanks

You won't get 4G unless you get a 4G sim and a 4G tariff.
They're not giving it away free sadly!

I have a Z1 too and can confirm the following symbols:
G = GPRS
E = EDGE
3G = 3G
H = HSPDA
4G = 4G

As a general rule the following abbreviations apply
G = GPRS Basic 2G data
E = Edge - slightly faster than GPRS but still 2G
3G = standard 3G allows for concurrent voice and data
H = HSDPA higher speed than 3G up to 7.2 Mbps
H+ = HSPA+ enhanced version of HSDPA up to 21 Mbps
DC H+ Dual channel HSPA+ up to 42 Mbps (also referred to as 4G in USA)
4G or LTE - Data only until VoLTE is rolled out.
You need a 4G SIM for LTE on O2 as well as the correct settings on the phone and a 4G tariff

Sorry had I posted this in the wrong thread? Apologies - I thought I was in Android!
@Perskie I do have a 4G ready sim - I didn't think it just came for free! I was asking about how to tell when I am on 2G, 3G etc - 4G isn't in my city yet but I have a ready sim.
I never have 3G showing - I only ever have the G, H or E letters - strange!!

In fact I see that H and H+ are better than 3G so panic over - thanks for the feedback, that has clarified things.
Cheers
