16/9, 15:10 - A few detals have been added to the page

17/9, 10:30 - Added a few more Q&As

17/9, 16:15 - Added some more questions & their answers

Q: Where’s the best place to find the latest info about the iPhone 5 on O2?

A: Check out http://j.mp/iPhone5O2 for all the latest information.

Q: How much does iPhone 5 cost?

A: You can have a look at our tariffs and prices for iPhone 5 at http://j.mp/iPhone5O2

Q: Will you be taking pre-orders for the iPhone 5?

A: Yes, you can pre-order iPhone 5 on O2 but stock is limited, so be quick.

Q: When will my iPhone 5 pre-order be delivered?

A: If we get your pre-order before 4pm the day before launch, we’ll get it to you on launch day. The only exception to this will be those customers with an address in the Highlands and Islands.

Q: Which tariffs will the iPhone 5 be available on if I grab one from a store?

A: The iPhone 5 will be available on our On & On 24-months tariff as well as the £63 per month tariff over 24 months.

Q: Is it available on 12 or 18 month tariffs?

A: the iPhone 5 is only available on 24 month tariffs.

Q: I’m at the end of my 12 month Simplicity contract.  Can I upgrade to iPhone 5 online?

A: Yes,  if you are at the end of your contract, you can upgrade to iPhone 5 with online pre-order or on launch day as long as we have the phone in stock.

Q: I’m on 12 month Simplicity but still in contract.  Can I upgrade early and get iPhone 5?

A: If you signed up to the special offer £20 a month On & On Simplicity, you’ll need to wait until after 6 months. All other Simplicity customers still in contract will need to go to an O2 retail shop on launch day, Friday 21 September. You will not be able to upgrade online.

Q: I’m on 30 day Simplicity.  Can I upgrade to iPhone 5 online?

A: If you’ve been with us for 6 months or longer, yes, you can upgrade with online pre-order as long as we have the phone in stock. Head over to o2.co.uk/upgrade

Q: What if I’ve been with O2 for less than 6 months on a Simplicity tariff?  Can I get iPhone 5?

A: It depends on the result of your last credit check. If you don’t see the option to pre-order via o2.co.uk/upgrade give us a call.

Q: Why are your Retail store iPhone 5 prices different to your Online/Telesales prices?

A: When you buy iPhone from O2’s website or through our call centres you will be buying it from Carphone Warehouse (O2 will be acting as an agent for Carphone Warehouse).  Carphone Warehouse set their own price for the iPhones we sell on their behalf, so prices may be different when compared to O2 Retail stores.

Q: Is the iPhone 5 available on Pay & Go?

A: Yes – you’ll be able to buy iPhone 5 from O2 on launch day.

Q: Is there a Fast Track Upgrade option available for existing customers?

Q: How do I get a nano sim?

A: One will come with the iPhone when you get it from O2 – if you’re buying from elsewhere you’ll be able to get one from us from Monday afternoon (17th September).

Q: What if I get an iPhone 5 from somewhere else? How do I get a nano sim?

A: You’ll need to pick a nano sim up from one of our stores from Monday afternoon (17th September).Remember – you won’t need to do this if you’re getting your iPhone 5 from O2 – we’ll supply a nano sim with it automatically.

Q: Can I buy iPhone 5 on O2, unlock it and use it on another network?

******  S-T-O-P  . . . DON'T DO IT!  ******

After a lot of research, I'm not getting the iPhone 5 that I desperately wanted ... read on!

The iPhone 5 whether you purchase it from Apple or o2 will NOT work on o2's eventual 4G network (whenever that happens!).

If you think you can sell it and get the iPhone 5S when its released and avail of o2's 4G promise, forget it! You'll have to buy out your remaining contract and pay 90% of the cost for the new phone (less VAT).

So, how will you make up this 90% cost for the 5S ... answer would appear to be to sell the iPhone 5 you buy/reserve on Friday 14th September - WRONG - who is going to want an iPhone 5 at that time that only works on 3G on o2/Vodafone and the EE market iPhone 5 market will already be saturated with the model you're trying to sell!

The o2 iPhone 5 will rapidly plummet in value once rumours of the next 4G iPhone emerge, as no one will want the o2 non 4G iPhone 5!!!

This means you will lose substantial amounts on this weeks purchase/preorder ... and have to shell out a wad of cash again for the next o2 compatible 4G iPhone.

No wonder o2 and Vodafone are so upset, but not half as upset as those who purchase the first iPhone 5's are going to be in a few months time!

Make up your own minds, but this may come back to haunt you! I'm going to save my £529 for now and continue to enjoy good 3G on my o2 iPhone 4S until a proper UK focused Apple 4G comes along on the o2/Vodafone network!

Whilst the whole 4G thing is confusing what we don't know is how easy it would be for the banding on the phone to be changed by an Apple update or what bands o2 will end up using.

Regardless, a new iPhone will be out before o2 roll out 4G or before EE get a decent coverage to make moving to them a must.

If you want 4G, here's what you need in this order:

1 - To live or work in the four EE cities covered now.

2 - To live or work in one of the 12 that are **proposed** by EE to be covered by Christmas.

3 - To pay for an expensive contract and handset from EE.

If there is no 4G with o2, is it really worth all the extra money upfront without a guarantee from o2 that will be able to use it on their 4G network when they eventually get it OR a proper guarantee of upgrade rather than the flimsy 10% 4G Promise they have proposed?

to each their own, you enjoy 3G on your 4S, i'm going to be enjoying 3G on my 5. i've no interest in 4G until it's as available across the country as 3G is. And by then, i'll be getting the 5s or 6.

there's a massive hole in your logic. if people do want to sell their 5 in a year's time, why can't they sell them to people who are going to use them with an EE or 3 sim which work perfectly on the 4G network that EE is rolling out?

and there is, you know, more to this phone than just 4G capability.

but as you said (after telling us what we should be thinking), we can all make up our own minds on what we're gonig to do tomorrow morning

Apple have released an article detailing which features of the Maps app will be available for different countries : http://www.apple.com/ios/feature-availability/#maps-standard

Looks like the only feature that us in the UK miss out on is the 3D buildings effects!

No hole in my logic ... think about it!

Those who wanted 4G would already be on EE! EE will reduce their tariffs and handset costs by the time o2/Vodafone are ready for 4G.

I believe paying the full price for the full software capabilities of the iPhone 5, but NOT getting the full benefit of its capabilities due to o2 not providing 4G means you are shortchanged. THIS is a mathematical certainty.

BUT, its a free Country and to be fair, I did say 'make up your own mind' slight_smile

some of the UK is covered by 3D maps, but its not vast which is why they said this. Manchester, Birmingham and another few are in 3D

@Hppy29

Have you any idea how quickly the 3D maps will improve?

4G at present is patchy to say the least. By the time 4G coverage expands to cover somewhere near what 3G covers now, then we will be on the iPhone 6 or 7 and the rest of the frequency range will have been actioned off. I think Legal action needs to be taken against OFCOM though, for the utter <REMOVED> up they've done.

I can understand the fascination with 4G, but at this time its not of much use has the coverage just isnt there yet and the price will be at a premium for a 4G service.

Also, the iPhone 5 will be able to access o2's HSDPA which can deliver speeds of upto 42 Mbit/s if I'm not mistaken, admittedly not as fast as 4G, but still very fast.

Anyways. If legal action is taken against OFCOM, then who knows what frequencies will become available for O2 and other operators.

And also, anyone who has tried to sell an iPhone will tell you that no matter what iPhone it is, they are always very easy to sell on. I've got my old iPhone sold the day I get my iPhone 5.

Never mind the 3D, I'm just hoping you'll be able to cache / download maps for offline use so you can use them when abroad or in areas of poor reception or where you go frequently.

Pretty sure Google said they would be bringing this to iOS soon with a new, standalone app (already exists on Android) so really hoping Apple hit the ground running and don't ply catch-up on it.
