Hi all!

O2 has started to send a monthly newsletter called 💧The Drop💧 (to customers who have opted in) with articles that might be of interest of everyone who uses our network. We thought that it would be good to share them on the community with all of you as well 😎

We start with one that is very useful for the late summer period we are currently in: an article on EU roaming. Ah! Don't forget that we also have available a Guide: Roaming MegaGuide here on the community too wink

Travel is back. If you’re anything like us, you’ll be excited about getting away again to explore new countries. While summer might be fading, there’s still time for a late getaway or weekend break to enjoy some sun, great food, and relaxation. Only two things can spoil a holiday: sunburn and an unexpected bill when you land home. We’re the only major network not to bring back EU Roaming charges for anyone, up to 25GB (use factor 50 to stave off the other).

What does it mean? It means you can use your phone the same way you do when you’re at home without worrying about extra charges. There’s also no need to resist turning it on for as long as possible after your flight has landed to save your data. Just switch on and use it as normal, up to 25GB. You don’t even need to let us know.

There are loads of ways your phone can enhance your holiday. Scroll down to find out how:

Show off your surroundings

Postcards are very much a thing of the past. Whether you’re crunching the cobbles of a gorgeous European city or catching the last-minute rays before the British winter, make sure everyone back home knows exactly how much fun you’re having. Whether you’re sending selfies over iMessage, video calling on WhatsApp, or FaceTime or updating your socials with panoramic #nofilter views of what everyone is missing, just remember: don’t rub it in too much.

Explore with confidence

There’s nothing better than discovering a sweet spot for a bit of relaxation – whether that’s a secluded beach, a picturesque village, or a lively cocktail bar. Equally, imagine getting home to discover you were just one street away from your potential holiday highlight, and you missed it. Explore your new neighbourhood online, research it, and then locate the best places on a mapping service. You don’t even need to leave your lounger.

Create the perfect soundtrack

Who appears on your perfect holiday playlist? Beach House, Best Coast, The Beach Boys? How about Train or Jefferson Airplane, or maybe just Journey? Everywhere you go, take your favourite music with you. Create any number of holiday playlists and then stream them as often as you want for an ideal soundtrack to your adventures. Plus, streaming your playlists rather than downloading them means you can save your phone’s internal memory to fill with photos.

Indulge in local cuisine

Not keen on popping to the nearest pizzeria for dinner? You might be two minutes away from a tiny backstreet that contains the hidden local gem you’ll be talking about for years. Use your data to scour the area for the finest restaurants recommended by those who came before you. Plus, if you’ve dropped into a spot where you don’t know what to eat, you can make sure you’re not ordering anything you don’t want by using a translation service to navigate the menu.

Never miss an episode

We all know the feeling. You’re away on holiday, and a new episode of your reality favourite or the latest Marvel series on Disney+ has just dropped – and your timeline is going off about it. There’s no need to wait until you get home. You can stream up to 25GB wherever you happen to be in the EU – without extra charges. So there’s no danger of missing out. Perfect if you need a break from the midday sun or the pool’s a bit crowded.

Ready to roam?

We’ve created a handy tool so you can search for the country you’re visiting to see if you can roam freely. You’ll need to search for the country or region rather than the city or town you’re visiting – so think Portugal or the United Arab Emirates (UAE) rather than Porto or Dubai. If you’re planning a staycation in the UK this year, we’ve got even more tips and tricks.

Hope you all like it as we intend to keep them coming!

The tool still misses the fact that Germany no longer supports 3G, so make sure the SIM you have in your (hopefully!) 4G or more-capable PAYG phone supports 4G at a minimum, otherwise you'll spend your break tethered to the Vodafone handset carried by another in the group, which, with the appropriate Voda bolt-on, works seamlessly, if a little less cost effectively, with all of Germany's 4G carriers' service everywhere...
