TU Go is closing 30th November

Hey all,

We see some of you have already spotted this but we wanted to confirm that the TU Go app & service will be ending on 30th November. We’ll be notifying all customers that have the TU Go app about this from today, Tuesday 17th October, through to Friday 20th October.

While TU Go is ending, we’re continuing to offer alternative calling options for our customers. More information can be found here. As VoWifi (Voice over Wifi, part of our Wifi and 4G calling capabilities) continues to develop, we’re working with our vendors to expand the selection of handsets that we offer with Wifi and 4G calling capabilities. A full list of currently supported devices can be found here, where we will also add future devices when they’re available.

If the device you’re currently using doesn’t support Wifi and 4G calling, you can check the My O2 app or get in touch with our customer service team (202 from an O2 Pay Monthly mobile, 8002 from O2 Business mobile) to see what upgrade options are available to you.

We recommend that all TU Go users make copies of any stored messages or images that they have saved on the TU Go app, as the app won’t be accessible from 1 December.

We know that some of our O2 Community members helped test the TU Go app during beta trials and provided varied and fantastic feedback which helped our team shape the app, add new features and fix any bugs. We hope you’ve enjoyed using TU Go, and again want to thank anyone from the O2 Community that helped us.

Yes EE WiFi calling does support texts without any App. It’s is just that O2’s implementation is ‘crippled’ not supporting as many handsets, texts or requiring O2 firmware on Android devices. AFAIK none support calling from abroad. O2 may have made a statement of intent to deploy texts over WiFi calling next year. This needs to be done ASAP after Nov 30th

Think I have kept my eyes open but do not recall seeing reason for demise of TU go which I find living as I do in an area where signal is poor to say the least. Is it being replaced with something else? Does it mean O2 are no longer concerned about areas like mine where signal is so poor?

I had an online chat with O2 customer service last week about this. The rep said “we are working on the alternative for Tugo at this moment of time we won't be able to give estimate of time, but we are working to bring it soon …we are working on the alternative it is just a delay as we are looking at increasing the functionalities are [?and] performance of the app. I would suggest you to wait until November and then take a decision as the product should be out soon.”

Tugo was one of the reasons I have remained an O2 customer, so by taking this useful application away, O2 have made it less likely that I will renew / upgrade.  EE beckons with a faster network and superior coverage.  I don't understand the rationale here, can somone from O2 explain the reasons behind this decision please?

I can’t use either of my two phones in the area of my house, in or outdoors, without TuGo. I’m sure this will be true of thousands living in rural communities.

 

it seems an odd thing to cancel when the development costs are written off and before the majority of phones can support Wi-Fi calling (the list of compatible ones is pitifully short). Apparently O2 thinks everyone will “upgrade” aka spend a lot more money to get over this issue?

 

i will probably migrate to Vodafone as a result.

The only way o2 are going to keep both myself and my wife is to give us a booster box.  Otherwise we'll be switching to Vodafone.  We'll do this about the middle of November to ensure that the changeover goes without a hitch.
