Unable to use my new pay as you go sim abroad.

Hi.
I’ve recently bought a pay as you go sim but it won’t work abroad. I sent it back to the U.K. for my sister to try and it works. She’s sent it back and it’s still not working. Can you check that it is set up to use abroad? I particularly asked for this when I bought it.
