Dear Community,
I know this sounds dodgy but my phone went into a river not because I am guilty of any charge but I wanted to break free from a controlling person who has gone on to make allegations against me. The text messages on the phone will help me in my plea for innocence; my ex friend knows the phone was thrown into the river in October 2021.
Once upon a time text messages could be accessed online. From a police investigation point of view, is there anyway the text messages can be retrieved? These messages will help in my defence.
Thanks in advance, please don't judge me. A friendship of 13 years went sour; I have mental health issues and broke off the friendship for the sake of my health.

Sorry to say there is no way you can access those messages, as you say the police can sometimes access records but it may be no more than number and date of time sent. Not sure if they can get information on messages received.
Not sure how long records are kept and this is over a year ago.

@SillyChip It's highly doubtful that your messages can be retrieved. Particularly after this length of time. If the police are already involved, even if O2 could get access to the messages they most likely wouldn't be permitted to pass them on to you. Your best option would be to seek legal advice.
