Has anyone else on a rolling monthly sim only contract had a message to say they are due an upgrade? Seems strange.
I transferred over from virgin mobile when O2 took over so haven't experienced this before.

@Su2e The email may be a scam. Don't click on any links or enter any information. See this to see how to check if you're eligible for an upgrade: How to upgrade your device – Help and Support | O2

OFCOM rules dictate that mobile companies inform customers when coming to an end of their contract or if better deals are available when out of contract.

Hi, thanks for replying.
Having recently been transferred from virgin mobile I was trying to find out if offering a combined handset and sim contract when I'm a sim only customer was the O2 normal way of working so I know what to expect next.
I was aware of the need for service providers to be up front about contracts at renewal. Virgin had different ways of keeping in touch, was hoping to find out from longer term O2 customers what their way of working was.
Thanks again

O2, since merging with Virgin Media, would happily sell you everything and the kitchen sink, to get their commission up as high as possible.
If you have a good handset, you could stay SIMO via uSwitch.co.uk or similar for a lot less, and the deal stays with O2 for billing so you can avail of Volt Megaguide.
If going for a handset deal, price it through the likes of Affordablemobiles or their sister company Mobile phones direct, but be warned that as O2 have changed systems, these guys are having delays with upgrades. They have no issue with a new contract and number - so you can do that then be prepared to migrate your old number into O2 yourself. Guide: Migration & porting into O2
You can also step into any O2 shop, with photo id, and see what they can do for you - but don't let them oversell to you, on handset, data or length of contract.
Good luck, @Su2e.

If it's a new handset that you are after @Su2e, you can also consider buying direct from the manufacturer such as Samsung or Apple ; or from a retailed such as Amazon.
You have already been pointed in the direction of Uswitch by @pgn ; you can then get a cheap SIM only deal from them to use with your new 'phone. 👍
