sim only cancellation within cooling off period left active

Anonymous
Not applicable

i had requesteed a sim only contract during early november and once it arrived i subsequently cancelled it during off the 14 day cooling off period.

today i have been charged £18.00 and left overdrawn on my bank acount due to this sim only account being leftactive and not cancelled upon initial request.

i have spoken with the online chat, provided the GED and have been reassured thar the concerns team will contact me to rectify this (this did not happen and no contact was made)

although i will be raising a formal complaint, my questiuon is this.

as i had arranged to cancel my contract within the cooling off period and a Direct Debit charge was taken from by bank without prior notice, is this withing breach of the direct debit guarantee and some form or breach of my consumer rights?

please advise

I would say it is covered by the DD indemnity guarantee, yes.
You are also advised to speak with CS rather than using live chat, for obvious reasons.
