o2 service status text

Both me and my Mum on o2 just got a text saying that o2 are doing maintance work near our postcode on x dates, so our service may be affected. Is this something new they have started to do now?

Been maintenance before at our postcode but never got a text telling us about it, usually you never notice or realise. Anyone else started getting these texts?

Is there anyway to find out what they actually do on the mast during these maintenance periods? The one in my area is lasting 5 days next month, but you never know what they do. With 4g rolling out and 3g in more remote areas, im always wondering if the next maintenance period is going to be a 3g improvement or even 4g

Unfortunately o2 don't give out that information regarding repairs.

We could tell you, but then you would know too much and we couldn't allow that.
