i have replaced my old nokia 520with a sim free 640 when i put my sim in the 640 £1/day is deducted for data why is this i am pay as you go

Go to settings then phone+sim and turn off mobile data.
You will be using small amounts of mobile data which will incur the £1 Web daily charge.

If you don't want to have to keep mobile data off, you may wish to look at a tariff that includes a little data. It could work out cheaper in the long run and will allow the phones apps to update.
