well, that's a bit of a monument to make people go all through that to try and pre order, only to blast this back at them.

I assume in store can still do switch up pre orders without this coming up

From memory you can still pre order in store and pay a £50 deposit for the privilege @viridis .

I have done many pre-orders in store with switch up, and its a lot less hassle than o2's fubar'd online processes and you usually get better service in store..

Good Luck...

Will go in store today, easiest option plus later down the line i won't get some BS about the device not being accepted (as its perfect and I don't trust o2 device evaluations online)

So, preorder switch up seems to have changed, and it's not great tbh.

No longer do you have to pay £50 up front (always better to keep a little extra in your pocket) but... and it's a big but...

You now preorder switch up in store, exactly how it is online. So you click on options, go through the motions get to the checkout and you now have 2 options after you arrange delivery of device to home or store.

1 send off device after new device arrives.

Sounds good, but as expected this option will throw up the same error people keep getting.

2 hand over your device at the point of preordering. I.e there and then. Meaning people will possibly be without a phone for the preorder period.

I mean I'm OK, I got home and slapped my sim straight into one of my other phones already signed in.... but.

Google now has on device 2fa which means people (after going without phone for a week) will get their shiny new phone, log into Google and the phone will say "please accept the sign in request on your [insert old phone here]" people won't be able to do that. The other options are to send a text (unavailable as the sim is in this phone so it's greyed out,  or to use one of your Google keys, (which would be on your old phone)

Or to request help (takes 3-5 days)

My advice to anyone switching up on preorder, would be to make sure 100% you are logged into Google on another device, any device in order to allow account log in on the new phone.

A few queries from me:

1) I presume you visited the Coventry store, so how certain can anyone be, that this 'palaver' is the same at every O2 store?

2) You say "My advice to anyone switching up on preorder, would be to make sure 100% you are logged into Google on another device, any device, in order to allow account log in on the new phone."

How do I know how long this 'Log Into Google' will last, before you are logged out again? (by google as you probably aren't using the logged in device?

3) Handing your phone over instore means you have to have a second device to put your sim in. Not everyone has a drawer full of old devices like you and @MI5 😂

Now you know  I'm not being negative but do wonder how this will work for everyone?

Great advice though. xx
