I’ve got a mobile broadband device, can I buy a SIM only upgrade which is for a phone as it’s better value with more data, or do I have to get a data only SIM? Both are from O2. If I want to use the phone SIM, do I need to unlock the device first? Thanks in advance

@AMS3

You can use a phone sim in a dongle. I have a friend who swaps his from phone to dongle when he wants to use either device. EE actually provide sims which state they can be used in phone, tablet or dongle.

Are you sure your dongle is locked? If bought from anywhere other than a specific network, (such as Amazon or Argos) they are generally unlocked to any network.

O2 will only allow the long term use of specific mobile broadband Sims in their dongles.

If you try to use a phone SIM for an extended period, it will be blocked.

I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

Currently using:
Pixel 7a (O2 & Lyca), One Plus 6 (Sfr), iPhone 12 Pro Max (Vodafone)
