Hi,
I just wanted to post a quick warning about so called 'Fast Track' upgrades that O2 offers. I don't think there would be a problem most of the time but I was mis-informed by a member of staff at an O2 store.
I took a new contract out on Friday for an Xperia T, upgrading from my sim only 12 month contract. I asked if I could upgrade yet as I was still in contract for another 8 months on the sim only tarriff.
The woman told me that was fine, that I could upgrade no problem. I was a bit unsure about the phone (mainly thinking it is too big) and I decided to return it the following day and swap the phone.
I have been told that I cannot do this as I had a fast track upgrade and that these terms were printed on the receipt. At no point during the sale did the advisor mention fast track upgrades. The term was not on the contract I signed, neither was the exclusion from the 7 days exchange. This was only mentioned on the receipt, which was printed off, stapled to my contract and put in the bag with my phone. It was never shown to me at all, so I never saw this before I left the store.
The staff cannot help me, they escalated it to a higher department but they say the contract is binding and cannot be altered by them. The manager was very nice and I do beleive that the lady who served me made a genuine mistake - she did not deliberatly mis-lead me. The manager said he has pointed this out to his staff so it won't happen again.
I now have two options. Keep the phone and learn to like it or contact customer services and launch an official complaint to get the contract cancelled. He said they might agree under the circumstances but I should not have to go though all the hassle of that.
I just hope this might help anyone considering upgrading during their sim only contract to avoid the same situation. If I get anywhere with O2, I'll let you know.
Andrew

A bit sneaky to just put it on the receipt without pointing it out. Hope you get this resolved.
Might be an idea to put in an official complaint whichever option you choose to go with and thanks for making people aware of this.
