I'm going to Amsterdam tomorrow and would like to know if my phone will still be ready to use as soon as I get there? Is it wise to turn off 'data roaming' as well to avoid large bills?

Switch off voicemail too before you go unless you have TuGo installed. Dial 1760 and if you want to switch it back on dial 1750. Switching off mobile data and roaming will still allow you to use wifi where it is available.

yes turn off mobile/cell data then you will avoid the big bill, you will still be able to call & text, you will receive a text when you arrive & turn your phone on informing you of the international charges
