Upgraded and received new SIM but no carrier is being registered

Hi, I upgraded from a very old LG phone to an iPhone 6s yesterday.  The LG phone no longer exists as I explained on live chat but the new phone is not picking up that the new SIM is O2.  So apart from bowsing the web, the phone is useless.  I can't follow the change SIM process because the number attached to the iPhone isn't working - I can't receive a text with a security code without network access, hence this post - how do I get round this??

I am the only 1 in my family on o2. Others have upgraded on their network, pop the new sim in off they go. Don't understand why live chat just has not been an option so I can resolve this nice and quickly as opposed to hanging on a phone. I agree Grrrrrr
