We have heard this lot's of times. The truth is things are not that simple when it comes to Credit Checks.

Yes paying regularly, especially by direct debit, will improve your chances but there are no guarantees

This is not O2 and we are all customers here similar to yourself and cannot answer account type queries.

Looks like you should contact the sales team as they can help with that – message them on Social Media if that works best for you -on Facebook ( https://o2uk.co/O2CFB) , Twitter ( https://o2uk.co/O2CTW) or Instagram ( https://o2uk.co/O2CIG)

Or you can call them on 0800 081 0255

Guide: How to find help & contact O2

you are not alone, I was sold a sim only contract and told that if I paid my bills correctly, I could upgrade to a device after 3 months without credit check. now after 3 months and tied to a contract, they say the information was given in error even though I know plenty of people with o2 that upgrade in the past and not only they didnt have a credit check (as already 1 is done when ordering a sim) but they got the upgrade device without upfront payment

o2 is not what it used to be since Virgin took control, they dont even allow you to raise complaints over the phone as I have tried many times and tell you to find the address and send a complaint later(as tgey know people wont bother and give up)

As stated, complain.

All device plans are credit checked, even if you are upgrading to a new device after two or three years.

This is not O2 and we are all customers here similar to yourself and cannot answer account type queries.

Changes to credit checking process were introduced by VM.

O2 never credit checked upgrades previously.
