Upgrade anytime with 12 month Simplicity

Anonymous

I was told yesterday when I spoke to upgrades on the phone that I could upgrade anytime from a 12 month Simplicity tariff as long as it was with O2. However I just got an email that says I can only upgrade one month early. Anyone know which is correct?

Hi guys! Only just spotted this post otherwise would have posted sooner.

A customer who upgrades to a 12 month simplicity (sim/only) can upgrade to a phone contract at anytime with O2 direct only i.e not via Carphone Warehouse or any other third party company for an O2 contract.

They can do this anytime during the 12 months, and will not have to pay a buyout fee to do so.

However, there is an exception to this rule which is the new £20 per month sim only for the unlimited on and on tariff, which requires the customer to stay on the tariff for a minimum of 6 months before they can upgrade, again only via O2 directly, without paying a buyout fee.

It is a promotion/offer just for the 12 month sim only's that the O2 re-contract team are able to offer so you are unlikely to find it in any terms and conditions, however, the upgrades teams are aware of it and there should not be any issue in you upgrading with O2 over the phone as I have mentioned before for these customers, if they experience an issue ordering the phone online via myO2 due to the upgrade date showing the normal 3 months early.

Toby/Leonard feel free to PM me if you need any more info/clarification on this.

If its sim only simplicity you can upgrade from 9 months.

As for simplicity and phone 1 month sounds about right.

Simplicity allows you to upgrade at any time (as you were told), however, the electronic systems don't recognise this which is why the email (and in "My O2") will most likely say 1 month early.

"SIM Only
Before you can use an O2 SIM card in your existing phone you may need to get your previous network or service provider to unlock the handset. You will need to wait until the expiry of any existing minimum term you have agreed and a charge may be payable. 30 days' notice required for cancellation. SIM Only 12 Month customers are subject to a minimum contract term of 12 months and are eligible for an upgrade after 9 months."

Just found that here

😕 am I wrong? Sorry if I am:(

I don't think you're right, or wrong and O2 are being obtuse with this.

Apart from what Liquid found in another place I found that you can upgrade early according to your tariff which they can vary at will, with the caveat that details are on the web site, well they aren't!

I have searched for a set of terms and conditions for Simplicity Pay Monthly 12 month tariff, and can't find any.

If anyone finds such a specific set please copy them back here so we can try and figure this out.

No wonder people complain about being confused, I know I am! Smiley Mad

I was under the impression that on a 12 month Simplicity contract you could upgrade at any time but you had to physically phone to upgrade so that O2 could override the system date for upgrade.

That was certainly the case a couple of months ago as posted by one O2 staff member. Worth giving them a call I would think.

That's what I was thinking off when I posted above but then doubted myself after Liquid posted ...... 😞

I guess it's just another of O2's mysterious T&C's
