Unlock Code

Can someone help me out.

I have a Sony Ericsson Z600 that I want to put my O2 sim into, but it's asking for an unlock code.

I bought the phone on ebay in 2005 and I'm not aware if it is locked to another network. I know there were O2 booklets in the box it came with.

Surely if it is an O2 phone I shouldn't need an unlock code. If not then how do I proceed?

Just an update and conclusion (of sorts).

I purchased the DC111 cable to factory reset the old Sony Ericsson phone. However, the software CD it came with called Mobtime required Internet Explorer 4 and I couldn't find a decent version online. The Sony Ericsson suite didn't work with the phone either.

So then I bought a hole-punch type device that MI5 above was talking about to change the old Sim card into a Micro-Sim to fit the new Nokia 3310. The hole-punch worked, however, the Sim card did not. Another waste of money.

So in the end we managed to get the contacts from the sim card transferred via bluetooth connection. I'm not entirely sure of the process but another family member managed to do it.

Upshot is that the new Nokia 3310 is the replacement phone, although the reception on it doesn't seem that good. Not too many bars compared to the previous phone. I'm not sure what can be done about that (perhaps nothing?) it's an O2 phone sim fwiw.

If it is an O2 phone, there is no need to unlock it.
If it is locked to O2, how to unlock it is here https://community.o2.co.uk/t5/Other-Products-and-Services/Unlocking-an-O2-phone-to-use-a-different-S...
If it is locked to another network, you need to ask them to unlock it.

Thanks for the reply.

If it is asking for a "Phone lock code" when I put an O2 Sim into it then presumably it is not an O2 phone.

I tried a T-Mobile Sim and it still asked for "Phone lock code", the same for giffgaff (although I'm not sure it existed in 2005 when I bought the phone "brand new" from ebay). Ditto for an Orange Sim card.

Would I be right in saying my issue is that I don't know which company the phone is locked to?

How can I find this out?

Sounds to me like the phone is pin locked and nothing to do with the network.
Try a hard reset to see if it clears it.

Edit: Apologies. Just reread the OP's first post. If it was purchased from eBay, that could be the problem, and the fact that it's 13 years old doesn't help either.

I DO NOT WORK FOR O2

I had a look at that website, thanks for posting the link.

Unfortunately I can't go to main menu to enact a hard reset as it won't let me past the "Phone Locked" screen.

It says "Phone Locked" at the top, and requests "Phone lock code". It says in the manual booklet that "Phone Lock" is to prevent unauthorised use if the SIM is exchanged and that it is not on when you buy the phone (it was).

Is there an external way of doing a hard factory reset? I read something about "flashing the phone" whatever that means.

Have you tried without the sim in the phone?
