Now my son is over 18 I want to transfer the phone he uses (which is in my name) to him so that he manages it.  The payment details will still be my bank account but I don't think that is relevant.  Any ideas how to do this please?

He will have to apply for a contract in his name and pass the credit checks.

You will then be able to transfer the number to his new contract.

Beat done when out of contract to avoid early cancellation fees.

thanks, as it's impossible to speak to anyone at o2 the easiest way is to switch to another provider (EE is good where I live), seems much simpler that way as he is out of contract.

@Dan1977uk

I'd agree with the way things are currently.

I've switched 2 accounts to Vodafone as they do actually answer the phone when you call.

If you want to try to call customer service.
Numbers here Guide: Coronavirus Community Help and Support
When it comes to the reason you are calling stay silent for 15 seconds and you will be taken to the keypad options.
Press 2 for Everything Else
Press 5 for More Options
Press 7 for Anything Else which will put you though to someone.
Say "Upgrade", "Lost/Stolen" or "Fraud" if you have to, to get put through to someone.
8.00am is the best time to call if you can.

You'll also need his PAC to switch networks and keep the same number Guide: How to get your PAC [June 2021 Update]
