Hey guys, i had a 12months contract on O2 but because of poor signal in my area i decided to close my account so i did at the end of the billing month in Mar2012, i did this at the O2 Sttore in central Bath, 14 St Lawrence Street. The guys in the store told me that the my account was successfully closed so i did not worried about, after few months i came back from holyday i realised that O2 is stil lcharging me the 15.50£/Month, so i went back to the store, they sent me to the online customer service, i had a conversation with David
His answer after one year of my request was:
"I have checked the account and can confirm it is closed and there is a – figure on the account which means it is in credit ,
if you go to this link you can request it back to your account the link is www.o2.co.uk/finalbillrefund "
and this is what i have recived ...

As already mentioned, you need to call Customer Services to try and resolve this. However I'm confused...
You said that the online chat assistant said that the account was closed and there was a positive credit amount which you could reclaim. Was this the £186 you are expecting? If not where did you get this figure from? Are O2 still taking money from your account each month?

Also, have you cancelled the direct debit with your bank account?
Surely if you did that after you went in to the store to cancel it then they could not of debited your account further?

You'd just be blacklisted and your credit rating destroyed.....

Oh sorry I didn't know that MI5 - apologies for the bad idea
I did that once with a gym when I cancelled and they wrote to me saying I owed them money as I had to pay an extra month and it was sorted.

O2 aren't as forgiving as that. If you cancel your direct debit without paying off what you owe, you will have a marker put on your credit rating, which is very difficult to remove. There have been horror stories on the forum of people being denied mortgages because they still owed O2 a few pounds.

Oh gosh! I'm glad I'm on PAYG. I remember when I was on pay monthly, I hated not being able to have a balance and check what I was spending (this was quite a few years ago when statements were sent in the post every month and it wasn't easy to use the site to check the balance and there was no such thing as an O2 app). One of my bills was about £80 and the next one was about £120 - I forgot to turn the internet off on my phone and I made a lot of calls as I naively thought they were free (I was young and didn't really understand what pay monthly was lol). On PAYG now I spend about £20 per month but I like it as I can check my balance easily and keep track of what I am using.
(P.S. Sorry to go off subject slightly)

I think that is what the OP had done, cancelled the dd without properly cancelling the contract.
O2 would want the outstanding balance of the contract to be paid.
You cannot stop a legal contract by doing that!
