Splitting a payment across two months

Hi,

 

Hope someone can help and my apologies in advance if this has already been covered...

 

I requested that my monthly payment from last month be split into two due to the fact that it was quite a hefty bill. I spoke with O2 and they told me that this was fine, so I paid approx 50% via debit card and followed their guidance to cancel my direct debit for that month with my bank and to then start it back up again when the following months payment was due. I was assured my phone would not be cut off etc.

 

Fast forward a couple of weeks and I get a text to tell me that I can no longer make calls until I pay the balance remaining on my account.

 

Has anyone else been in a similar situation? I'm not really sure what's going on and due to being told that I could make the remaining payment as part of next month's bill, I am not in a position to do it now. What should I do?!
