Sim swap, arranging from overseas

Hello

I live in Australia and keep an O2 sim active (by texting every 6 months) for when I visit the UK from time to time.

I need to change the sim from micro to nano, and someone who is visiting the UK is going to bring me back a new sim with a random number and no credit so that I can do a sim swap.

Will I be able to do that from Australia using the texting option or by live chat?

Also, are sims available in which the nano sim pops out from the micro sim?   In the short term I'll need it in a micro size but when I get a new phone I'll need the nano.

Thanks  🙂

Cheers, Glen.

Hi @GlenSydney There should be no problem with this as you are currently registered on the O2 network

The sims are 3-1 so you can push out to use the nanosim when required More info here

I'd suggest line chat for activating the new sim.
I've never tried a sim swap from abroad so don't know if it would work or not tbh.

There is nothing online here but I checked giffgaff who use O2....and they said it was fine. In fact someone did a sim swap from India with no problems. (post 17) https://community.giffgaff.com/t5/Help-Support/Sim-swap-while-abroad/td-p/17141205

It's possible but not something I can confirm personally.
Worth a try but live chat is there as a backup if not.

Thankyou for those replies and the giffgaff thread which I read.

This all suggests to me that it should be fine in Australia and so I shouldn't need to bother the person bringing the sim to do the swap for me whilst in the UK.

I've used LiveChat before and I find them very helpful, I just thought it was good to ask here to find real experiences.   🙂

I did a sim swap from Thailand though it was on the phone. By that criteria I'm almost certain the sim swap online would work, it doesn't matter where you are in the world according to the young lady I spoke to.

Thanks, that's encouraging.   🙂

At the moment the old sim is in another phone in the UK.

By the time I get the old sim back here in Australia, and a new blank / random number sim, I'll put it in a spare phone I have here and do the swap.

If the sim is in another phone in the UK ...you have a couple of choices then...it could be done by your friend inthe UK....or you could do it all when it gets to Australia.....Up to you really wink

As the phone/sim is in the uk can the person do it for you in an o2 store, say they need a new multi sim for when the new phone arrives and they will do it all in the store for you.
