Please help me use phone abroad - Southern Spain

Hi All

Apologies if this has posted twice (internet issues).

I'm in southern Spain and have a monthly contract with 02 on iPhone.

I got 02 travel and turned my phone on as soon as I got here. Movistar networked appeared automatically, however, I am unable to connect to the Internet.

When I've tried to get on the Internet, it tells me I am unable to as I must be subscribed to an Internet provider (or something like that) before I can use the Internet.

Tried searching for other networks to see if I could find 02 but no luck....although a few did show up including Vodafone.

Can anyone help me with this, please? 02 aren't able to help (over 30 minute wait on phone and no chat option available).

Thanks so much x

You might have the wrong APN.
What is the wording, are you using idata or mobile.o2.co.uk?
You might need to call CS and ask to be put onto idata.

Hello there

Thanks so much for all the suggestions.

I got through to Peter on the 02 helpline who was very helpful.

He explained that, when I took out my contract with 02 - they'd applied an 'android' bolt on (which was compatible with the android phone I'd taken out with them).

A few months in, I decided to change my phone to an iPhone. 02 sent me a sim I could use in the iPhone and everything worked fine.

However, when I'd changed to an iPhone, the android bolt on wasn't changed to an iPhone bolt on. Peter explained that using an iPhone with an android bolt on in the UK usually didn't cause any issues and that most people could get away with it. Abroad....it's a different story. An android bolt on on an iPhone simply will not work.

Peter has now changed my bolt on to reflect my current iphone and we hope to have it up and working at midnight tonight.

Thanks again for the kind suggestions! It's great when you can log on a forum like this and have people who are willing to give up their time to assist you.

🙂 xx
