I purchased an o2 PAYG sim on the 23rd December and immediately added a £10 topup, moving it to the 75 minutes/500 texts/250MB data plan.

Since then, I've received several junk texts from o2... from free tickets, discounts on topups to international minutes and other such junk. When I say several... it's probably 18/20 by now. They're not information "your topup was successful" messages either... they're just adverts.

I don't recall ever opting in to receive constant adverts, but I do recall calling 2220 and "opting out" of everything. I have also called customer services twice since and despite them telling me that everything has been removed, I'm still getting them... along with the daft pre-call announcements telling me I've no credit, despite topping up £10.

Seriously o2 - what are you playing at?

Long story short... I've got my PAK code and I'm out of here. Keep the £10. Better yet, donate it to charity.

P.S What's with the password limitations during registration?

Yeah, it's a PAYG Nokia. I'm just going to use the high street service; if it breaks, it breaks!

Just very annoyed that apart from not being able to use something I paid for; that I was also charged for a unlock that I didn't get.

Lesson learned though; and I hope OFCOM's ombudsman service likes my angry email. 😞

The op is saying he bought a sim not a phone so no unlocking required just a pac code to port his number to another network.

It is only when you buy a payg phone o2 lock you to 12 months for the phone etc.

PAYG phones have to be on the network for 12 months before O2 will unlock them. It's in the PAYG T&C's and is there to protect O2's investment in the phone purchase.
If they took the £15 for the unlock and then rejected your application you should call and get it refunded.
Ofcom will not be interested in your email, I'm afraid.....

I'd love to know how they invested in the phone I paid in full for. As for ombudsman, the email was already sent and they said they are looking into it, if it fails it's okay, as said the lesson has been learned.

Thanks for replies.

Moving on. slight_smile

O2 buy the phones and sell them to consumers at a cheaper price than sim free phones. The difference between O2's price and the sim free price is recouped by the owner paying for top ups for 12 months.
The email you had back is a standard response email and as O2 have specified the unlocking terms in the T&C's you will get no joy, however, as I already said, if you are down by £15 due to a rejection of your application you can get it refunded, however, the money is never usually taken until the unlock application is approved so you should not have been charged in the first place.

It was took by one of the tech/helpline guys; he had me top-up £15 and said it was "sent off" to get unlocked and I should get a code; but all I got was an email saying "wait til Oct 2014".

They can keep the £15; I'd sooner buy a new handset. 😞

If it was me, I'd definitely be getting my £15 back wink
