Hi,
In September 2019 I bought an iPad and two iPhones: one for me and one for my son.
My first payment for the devices was in the region of £80-85. After a year I paid off the iPad and my phone but the cost for my adjusted plan was £56.00 roughly. My phone is over two years old and today I went to seek a replacement. I asked a rival phone company why my bill had been so high. He said that O2 should have informed me to cancel my contract and take a Sim only tariff when I paid off my phone, which they did not. I actually visited the O2 shop and asked why the bill was still so high and was told it was part of the contract. Is this information true and do I have any comeback on possible compensation from O2? Many thanks.

No compensation, entirely your responsibility to change to sim only
The onus is on yourself not O2
