Hi all,
If anyone could offer any insight to my issue below I would be most grateful.
I have been with 02 since 2012, saw out the initial 2 year contract and continued sim only. O2 recently called me to ask if I wanted to upgrade - I didn't want a full upgrade, but accepted an offer to change my sim only package (same mins and texts, just a small increase in data allowance - no other changes).
This seemingly went fine, but I went to check my visual voicemail inbox a few days later and all of my voicemails had dissapeared.
I called 02 and they told me that the customer service agent that 'upgraded' me mistakenly set my settings to 'smartphone' rather than 'iPhone' - it is an Iphone 4s, so should always be set as iPhone.
Has anyone experienced similar?
The voicemails that have been deleted were left to me from my now deceased parents - I used the 4s only to keep their messages and I really, really need them back. But O2 have told me that absolutely nothing can be done and my voicemails are gone froever. Surely they can't have been actually deleted permanently?
The contract involves me paying them to maintain my voicemails - they haven't done this, so I am inclined to assume that they are in some way in breach of contract. Would anybody agree or disagree with this assumption?
Thank you to all who can help here - I will value absolutely any insight to this.

Unfortuantley Voicemail is seen as an add on service, with no service guarantees, and you dont actually pay for Voicemail, and as they are on o2's servers they can in theory delete them.
Have you tried switching back on Visual Voicemail: https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT201436?
Unfortuantley they have gone for ever, if this doesnt work.

Hi mate,
Thanks for your message.
I did not know that voicemail has no service guarantees. This is obviously disappointing, and will probbaly affect any chances I have of being somehow compensated.
I did ask them if they could get an IT wizard to perhaps retrieve the deleted voicemails, but they either can't do this or won't do this.
02 did revert me to visual voicemail as soon as I had noticed that it had disappeared, however when it returned there were no voicemails there, just an empty visual VM inbox 😞
Best,

Hi Jonsie,
Thank you for providing that link. You're right they are irreplacable. I hoped I'd perhaps not miss them as much as I thought I would, but the months that have passed have proven otherwise.
Kind regards,
GR

I think I do have a backup of the phone, perhaps even two backups.
I am terrified that I will lose other things if I mess around with the phone now, so I am moving everything important to my new phone and then I will look into restoring the backup.
Does a backup that is on my iTunes include voicemail messages?
Best,
GR

Hi Martin,
Unfortunately no luck yet. I think I have come to accept that they are gone. But I do keep saying to myself 'surely not, digital files are never truly deleted, etc etc, they could be retrieved..' But this is wishful thinking.
02 have been no help whatsoever either. ln fact their service to me has got worse since - I requested to be moved to PayG and they told me they needed to send me a knew sim card - they sent me 2 sim cards, neither of which work and I have not been connected to the network for 3 months. I have to use the website webchat to speak to someone because I cannot ring.
Kind regards,
G Read
