O2 4G YORK

Anonymous
Not applicable

Just realised my phone is showing 4G connection, I checked O2's coverage checker and there isn't anything listed about the roll out yet, I knew it was already live in Leeds but could not find anything regarding York.

Can anyone confirm if it has indeed gone live now?  (YORK area)

Thanks,

Mark

Just a little update on this. My signal has gone from 1 bar with 4G to full 5 bars with 4G connection (showing as LTE in mobile status etc)  Managed to record a 48 meg download speed a couple of times earlier - It seems if o2 are testing, then it's fully functional in and around York.

Exciting news slight_smile
Sounds like they are doing the final tweaks....

Remember carrying out speed checks eats around 40mb to 50mb of your data allowance

However , Exciting news for you.

Yup, been rarely using my data lately due to quite a poor data reception, So I still have 4.3GB or so left til month end. Now 4G is working... that may indeed change grin

It's good to actually see good speed and a stable and steady signal. I must also note, while at work last night (it's like a fortress no one gets a signal in there) I had 3 bars with 4G connection pretty much all night everwhere.

Has the new 4G spectrum got a better indoor range?

Yes, it should be better for indoor coverage.

OK so it's been 2 to 2-1/2 weeks now and I have full 4G working flawlessly. Guess O2 have enabled it fully in York now without any roll out date or official announcement. Only place in the City I do not get it is in the City Centre, appears as though it's coming in from outside the city and moving inwards as the upgrades take place etc.

Nice isn't it.

What 4G download speeds are you attaining ?

When at work I have full five bar signal and I'm pulling around 40meg or so on average. At home (literally 5minute walking distance) I have 2 bars of 4G and I'm averaging around 20meg give or take. Overall, I'm happy I switched back to O2 from Three (who were very very poor for any coverage at all) - Upload seems to be set on 21meg regardless of signal level though.

Nice.

Three are good in my area for data and their all you can eat tariff but for calls they are not so good !

I attain just over 50mbps download speeds and over 17mbps upload.

I now see the difference if my iPhone drops to 3G !

When I first went with Three I got a 1month roller (from June 2013) to see how they faired before taking up a full contract (was playing the waiting game to see what phones came out etc) -

Now intially I had full service all the time with Three, speeds were crazy fast, coupled with the fact they had just announced free 4G also, I figured lets see what happens...

Got up til October time then the signal became woeful, 1 bar most places including Leeds city centre (no excuse in a big city IMO) - I rang them, they sent out a new sim in case I had a dodgy one, nope. Still poor, data speed literally became max of 1meg - I rarely used over 1GB tbh - So I finally got annoyed, and Went back to O2 Who the other half is with and she has full signal everywhere. I was with O2 from the Cellnet days, never had any issues.

In hindsight, guess a moment of "Unlimited Data" madness spurned me to change. Now that won't happen again. I'll stick with my 5GB data plan with O2 as it suits me perfectly.
