O2 4G YORK

Anonymous
Not applicable

Just realised my phone is showing 4G connection, I checked O2's coverage checker and there isn't anything listed about the roll out yet, I knew it was already live in Leeds but could not find anything regarding York.

Can anyone confirm if it has indeed gone live now?  (YORK area)

Thanks,

Mark

Could be where current work is taking place ahead of rollout for York.  Whenever they fit the equipment on the mast, that mast goes live for testing.  That may be why you're seeing 4G at the moment.

I'm not sure if they then switch off the 4G service until launch day for that city, or they just leave it running.

There are various links on the site to check.

Here is one http://www.o2.co.uk/4g/coverage-and-cities

You would only get a 4g connection if your sim card is a 4G one and your tariff includes 4g data connection and the phone is compatible.

Yeah I have a 4G enabled sim/plan, And I checked the coverage checker but it shows no coverage for 4G. But According to my download speed I am getting 13-15meg where as before it was about 3-4

Is the icon in your status bar say 3G.

They could be doing some upgrade work on your masts which has somehow allowed you to flash up 4G.

Could just be a spike or flawed speed test result.

I attain just over 50mbps download speed on 4G.

As you state York is showing as

Live results for York, York

  • Normal coverage for Mobile internet and voice (3G)
Fast networking. For smartphones, dongles and tablets.
Good indoors and outdoors. Good for mobile broadband.

  • Normal coverage for Mobile Internet (4G)
    Seamless connectivity and mobile internet.
Sorry, we do not have coverage here.

Most likely engineers testing it before turning it on properly. Must be due soon wink

Yup showing 4G in the status bar, (I have one signal bar so I attribute that to the speed being slightly less than what one would expect) -

Yeah was just a bit bizarre that coverage checker shows no 4G, but phone is running it for sure. Was curious to see if anyone else has had it also.

Thanks for the responses guys, Just baffled me a bit since York has no actual ETA for 4G from what I have seen yet, hopefully it'll be live from now (not holding my breath though)

From my experience in Coventry and Birmingham it was on/off for a few days whilst under test then it went off until launch day.
