I have had a contract with O2 for the last 2 years which ran out a couple of months back and has been continued as default. I have now got an iPhone 5 on a new, completely different contract, whilst the first contract remains running after expiry. Please could you advise as to how I can switch my number from the old contract onto the new one, and then how to subsequently cancel the old contract.

That's an odd thing to do, all you had to do was get an upgrade.
If you have a contract still running you must phone O2 to cancel it with 30 days notice.
If you are still with O2 they can transfer the number for you, otherwise you'll need a PAC for your new supplier.

Are you going from o2 to o2 or o2 to another carrier?
