Do I have to request activation of roaming from 02 before travelling to Europe. Last trip my phone didn’t work at all. Have tried to engage with o2 help directly but have not got an answer before chat terminates

You shouldn't if you are on pay monthly - it should just work like normal.
If you had some issues then yes it would be worth contacting customer services.
Best time to call is between 8am and 8:30am.

Please note, this is not customer services and we cannot access your account. Do not publish personal details (email, phone number, bank account).

Link to our guide on how to contact them can be found here

@David15

If you bought from Carphone Warehouse you will need to get roaming activated by customer service.

I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

Thanks very much. I bought from mobiles.co.uk and it looks like they are part of carphone warehouse. Now I have to work out how to get 02 to do it😀

Just call 202 from your phone.

Early morning around 8.00am is the best time.

Re CPW, I rang O2 before my grandson went off abroad re roaming bar and was told there wasn't one on his phone.

Interestingly though, I wasn't allowed to apply a spend cap due to the phone being bought from CPW. That was something I didn't know!

He may have already lifted it?
CPW don't enable roaming automatically on any phones they sell on any network. Never have done.

No he didn't Rich. As the phone is in my name, I did all that. He was clueless about roaming bars. I have heard from him and phone is working perfectly.

I rang O2 specifically to check re roaming bars. He went to Portugal last year with the same phone and it worked fine there, but with him going to the Caribbean I needed to make sure.

I was surprised that I couldn't apply a spend cap though.
