I am on a sim only deal and my phone which is a HTC One M8 will only pick up H signal at most,I have been advised that it is to do with o2 frequencies and different bandwidth that some handsets does not get 4g spectrum in UK. Is it true that you can get o2 own branded software which can be obtained from any o2 shop for £10?

No not true I'm afraid. You need to check you have the correct data bolt on with customer service and that 4G is switched on for your account.

Hi MS58 no that isn't true about the software nor is it true that your phone cannot get 4g.
Your problem is most likely the wrong data bolt on. You are probably on a Blackberry bolt on and you need standard data.
Text the word "ACTIVE" to 2020, then call customer services and ask them to put you on the standard data bolt on for Android phones.

@MS58To get 4G... you need a 4G phone, a 4G sim and be in a  4G area

So you may want to change your sim by popping instore or check your network status here https://status.o2.co.uk/

It's either the wrong bolt on, wrong apn, or you are using an imported version of the M8 which isn't compatible with UK frequencies.
