Hi, Wondering if anyone can advise with the following.

I was with Virgin Mobile which switched to a new O2 sim plan in July this year.

I’ve just bought a new phone through Buymobiles. net with a new O2 sim and a new contract.

I’m looking to move my number to the new sim and new phone.

I called O2 this morning and they said i’d have to go into an O2 shop.

Just been to the O2 shop and they’ve said i need to call O2?

So if I’m picking you up correctly I need to buy a PAYG sim from any network apart from O2.

Then transfer my old O2 number to that network then transfer again back to O2?

That is correct

This is not O2 and we are all customers here similar to yourself and cannot answer account type queries.

@Andy74 Bear in mind that using your PAC to do that would cancel your current O2 contract, which would require you to pay it off in its entirety before you could PAC back in and then set up a new contract. At least that's how it seems to me. Happy to be corrected if I'm mistaken.

I DO NOT WORK FOR O2

So by the current contract you mean my old contract with the old number?

Not the new contract with the new number?

It’s crazy to think that at the moment I have two O2 contracts but i have to buy another sim from another network to get to a position where i have one contract.

If i was able to speak to a uk advisor when calling O2 it would possibly be sorted more easily.

@Andy74

You can always ask to be put through to a UK call centre, but to answer the question, yes, your old contract will end when the number is either ported out or migrated to the new contract.

If you haven't reached the minimum term there will be early cancellation charges, whichever way you do it.

Virgin Media and O2 2023 Merger Update | The Drop | Inspiration | O2

The first line reads "In June 2021, Virgin Media and O2 joined forces with the mission to supercharge the UK."

Depends on your take on the word "supercharge".

Some of the subsequent price rises have certainly translated into super high charges.

So as suggested i’ve bought an Asda PAYG sim and now have my old number on that sim which got transferred over on Monday.

Is the next step calling O2 and getting that number transferred onto the new O2 contract sim?

I’ve been trying to request a PAC from Asda mobile but it keeps saying ‘your PAC request is being processed by your new network provider and cannot be cancelled’

Yes, once you have the PAC from Asda you need to get that ported to the new O2 contract.

Your old PAC should cancel down in a couple of days to allow the new one to be generated.
